project 3---the roof

This is the only part that can be seen from the outside of the long façade the building. I have created the special hole which can let people to see the illusion of the interior. And it is the only window on this facade. It might attract more people to going to the gallery.

This is the only part that can be seen from the outside of the long façade the building. I have created the special hole which can let people to see the illusion of the interior. And it is the only window on this facade. It might attract more people to going to the gallery.

The office, kitchen and toilet is fitted between two “bubbles”.



The interior bubbles are constructed by layers of loops they are connected by studs which is placed in a cockled way. It brings the movement to the “room”.
When people walking in the gallery, they can see though the “wall”, and can look at other people doing the same thing in other rooms.

The interior is formed by 4 “bubbles” which represent the chemical reaction in a test tube. I planned to put the biggest bubbles in the front and smallest at the end to refer the idea of the journey of chemical reaction and at the apartment which is at the end of this site, the geometry transferred from the circle to the curved wall and to the straight line.

the entrance and sculptural courtyard

The shape of the entrance is an illusion of something that can suck things in side.
The sculpture courtyard which is between the main entrance and the interior entrance which can use for block the noise from the busy street. And it is also a transformation from the out “real life” to the “artistic word”. The form of the entrance is continued in the courtyard. And create a sense of aisle and lead people go into the gallery.
I designed a simple stair which can lead people to the roof; the roof is a continuity of the sculpture court yard.

Concept of my design,
My design idea is developed from the test tube, as the site is quite long, just like the same of a test tube. Also the gallery shop I designed is for exhibit and sale experimental art, my design want to invoke the “EXPERIMENTING” idea, that we see the building as a container absorb the idea of life then create the form of art in side of the gallery.
